2000 R1

The whole bike is inspired by the 1999 and 2000 Isle of Man TT bikes built by V&M and QB Carbon in England. They were looking to blend the best features of the R7 (handling and streamlining) with the raw muscle of a tuned R1. This was basically the ultimate spec R1 and was named R71 after it hybrid nature.

Next the mirrors and front signals need fitting, and need to decide what to do about rear signals without them looking like crap. Integrator anyone? The lights are blacked out with duct tape for the next track visit. Assuming it comes back in one piece the saga will continue..........................................

June Track day update: Pissed down all day, sat in the motorhome watching the John McGuiness blitzing the 2004 TT on video for the morning then went home. Bummer.

July Track Day Update: After the crap day in June it had to be better. Was it ever, mid 70s all day, slightly overcast all day, no sunburn or rain. Rode around like a loony all day without crashing. The bike is amazing. Saw 168mph on the clocks (probably about 150mph in real speed) at the end of the straight. Handles like it on rails. Need some more ground clearance as I have worn some of the paint off the belly pan grinding it on the ground. Sparco Rearsets work really well. Just a great day. The bike has serious grunt, my arse dyno estimates 145 at the wheel, although it has not been calibrated recently. Had a great time switching between my XR650R Supermoto bike (more about that later) and the R71. Mike Merrill's request to try the R71 was declined nicely. Mike is no stranger to 2 wheel peril, but I need to crash it before he does!
